Why Live Off-Campus?

While there are a variety of reasons students choose off-campus housing. some of the most popular reasons to find an off-campus apartment are:

1. More Space

When it comes to living on campus, one frequent drawback is the lack of space. Many colleges have you sharing one room with another student and sharing a bathroom with a whole hall. While this is great for making friends in your first yea r of school, you're likely looking for a little more space and feeling like you have more of a home environment than a dorm can provide.

2. You Can Have a Pet

Owning a pet can be fun and good for you and your mental health. Usually, on-campus housing doesn't allow pets. When you move off-campus to a pet-friendly apartment community, you can own a dog or other pet if it conforms with the community's pet policy. Be sure to check out our pet policy before getting a pet, and make sure you have a good plan for taking care of your pet. When you become a resident at Mt. Carmel Village, you can use our Bark Park!

3. Better Amenities

Instead of stressing about finding a convenient parking space on campus, imagine having your own garage, and not having to scrape your windows when it snows. Whether it's having a garage or having a full-size refrigerator and no longer needing to squeeze your groceries into a mini fridge, there are certain perks of apartment living that dorm living doesn't offer. It's easy to see why amenities are a key reason students choose off-campus housing.

4. More Flexibility

Another main reason students choose off-campus housing is the flexibility. Often, when it comes to living on campus when the semester ends, you are forced to move. Some schools even require you to leave your dorm over school breaks. This can be stressful as a student, and it can be a real perk to not be tied down by the school schedule. For example, if you find an internship in the summer in Wichita, you already have a place to live. And if you live in the same apartment for several years, you don't need to worry about moving every school year.
