After tuning up, repairing, or customizing a bicycle, the next step is to get it out for a ride. The list below contains three of the most popular and exciting bike trails in the Wichita area.

Arkansas River Path

The Arkansas River Path is the signature bike trail in Wichita, KS, thanks to its proximity to many of the area's main attractions. The 10-mile paved trail runs through the center of the city, providing access to the Museums on the River district, which features such sights as the Mid-America All-Indian Museum, Old Cowtown Museum, and Botanica Wichita, that detail the cultural lineage of Wichita in exciting ways and expose visitors to plants they’ve never seen before.

Cyclists riding the Arkansas River Path also get to witness the city's natural green ecosystems and The Keeper of the Plains. This iconic, 44-foot steel sculpture  has stood as a symbol of Wichita since 1974.  Riders should be aware of some slight inclines as they approach either of the two footbridges crossing the river to and from Veterans' Memorial Park. Thankfully, the Arkansas River Path is mostly flat, which makes it easier for newer riders to enjoy the experience.

Redbud Trail

The Redbud Trail offers a moderate increase in difficulty for riders looking for a challenge that isn’t overwhelming or exhausting. It is a repurposed rail trail that runs from downtown Wichita to Augusta for 16 miles, with multiple access points along the path. Its combination of paved sections and packed limestone makes it a preferable trail for mountain and road biking, as well as running or jogging.

Cyclists do need to practice good etiquette by announcing themselves as they approach people on foot. Please note that part of the Redbud Trail route between Woodlawn and Farmview to K-96 near Greenwich will be closed until 2027 due to construction.

Last but not least is the Wichita Bike Path, a 10-mile, point-to-point path that presents hours of easy riding terrain all year long. Even inexperienced cyclists can likely ride the entire path in under three hours. It is another multi-use trail, so be on the lookout for joggers and walkers getting their steps in alongside road bikers while admiring Wichita's natural and manmade scenery.
